Blues Dance

Capital Blues proudly presents weekly Thursday night blues dances. We rotate DJs and instructors each week to inspire and challenge you. A beginner workshop from 8:15 - 9:00 pm offers important partnering basics for new dancers. The class is included with admission; no partner necessary. Dancing runs from 9 pm to 11:30 pm to blues music from every corner of the genre. Note: the entrance to Ballroom Annex is on far left side of Spanish Ballroom.

Contra Dance

The Friday Night Dancers present Contra dancing as well as some square dances and waltzes. Contra dance lesson from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m. followed by the called dance to live music from 8:30 to 11:30 pm. Beginners are always welcome. Tonight New Hip Trio plays to caller Bob Isaacs.

Swing Dance

Flying Feet Enterprises presents a night of swing dancing with live music by the Brooks Tegler Big Band. Beginning with a Swing lesson from 8 to 9 pm with Marc Shepanek and Ellen Engle, and followed by dancing to from 9 pm to midnight.

Waltz Dance

Waltz Time presents a beginning waltz lesson from 2:45 to 3:30 pm, followed by an afternoon of waltzes and other couples dances to live music by GIGMEISTERS with Dave Wiesler, Alexander Mitchell, Paul Oorts, and Ralph Gordon. Dancing from 3:30 to 6 pm. As always, no partner is required for this dance in the Spanish Ballroom, and the cost is $10, including lesson.

Argentine Tango

Tango Brillante DC is happy to offer Argentine Tango lessons followed by a Milonga most Sunday evenings. Dancers can choose either the beginner lesson from 6:30-7:15pm or the intermediate lesson from 7:15 - 8:15pm, or both. Cost is $15/lesson and includes the Milonga that follows. For dancers who wish to attend just the Milonga, cost is $10 and the open dance runs from 8:15-11:15pm. Rene will DJ with a mix of traditional and mueovo tango with a little alternative added. No partner required.

Contra and Square Dance

The Folklore Society of Greater Washington presents traditional American contra dancing. The evening can include square dances, mixers, waltzes and other couple dances. All Contras and Square dances are taught, no partner is necessary. There is a lesson at 7 p.m., followed by dances with live music by Magic Foot Trio and caller Adina Gordon from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.

New Year's Eve Swing Dance

BOOGIE-WOOGIE BLOW-OUT with Mitch Woods & His Rocket 88s and Daryl Davis.  Spend your New Year's Eve the Boogie Way! These two legendary performers will ring in the new year in a swinging' way.

 

Mr. Boogie's back in town! Mitch Woods and His Rocket 88s are the torch bearers of a great American musical heritage, taking their inspiration from the great jump n’ boogie outfits and swingin’ little big bands of the 1940s. Mitch takes his cue from Louis Jordan, Cab Calloway, Joe and Jimmie Liggins, and Louis Prima -- to name just a few.

 

In 1985, 72 year-old Pinetop Perkins, one of the founding fathers of Boogie Woogie and considered to be one of the greatest Blues and Boogie pianists, selected 27 year-old Daryl Davis to succeed him in the piano and vocal slot of the Muddy Waters Legendary Blues Band. Daryl Davis has worked with countless greats, including Elvis Presley’s Jordanaires and The Coasters, and he is a long-standing regular player in Chuck Berry’s current band.

 

Beginner swing lesson with Tom and Debra from 8 - 9 pm is included in the admission. The dance follows from 9 pm - 12:30 am. No advance tickets - all tickets sold at the door.
