Dancing in the Park
We offer regular social
dance events and
classes in waltz, swing, contra, salsa, and
more. Dances take place in the historic
Spanish Ballroom
and Bumper Car Pavilion. Our recent renovation has brought the Ballroom back
to its original splendor, and it remains the premiere site for dancing in the
Washington DC area.
All social dances are open to the public, for all ages, with no prior experience
or partner required. Most of the dances offer an introductory lesson and live
music. Tickets are $5 - $20 and are sold at the door. They cannot be purchased
in advance. Alcohol is prohibited on park grounds, and smoking is prohibited
in all buildings. Dress is casual, and "layers" are recommended, because the
dance halls are neither heated nor air-conditioned.
Contemporary Dance and Creative Movement
Dance and movement classes are offered for
preschoolers with parent/caregiver through senior adults in the Hall of Mirrors.
Instruction is provided for teens and adults in a variety of dance and movement
styles such as: modern dance, belly dance, polynesian dance, hip-hop, yoga,
t'ai chi, nia technique, hula hooping and more. Children can participate with
a parent/caregiver in Music Together and yoga classes.
