Living Classrooms
From its location in the former Stables building at Glen Echo Park, Living Classrooms provides engaging outdoor nature experiences, live animal encounters, and hands-on activities for children up to age 15. Family weekend programs, birthday parties, school and scout programs, and seasonal camps are just a few of Living Classrooms' many programs that encourage children to experience, appreciate, and become stewards of the natural environment. Teen volunteer programs are available as well, up to age 17.
Living Classrooms at Glen Echo Park, part of Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region, is located in the former Stables building at Glen Echo Park, just over the Minnehaha Creek bridge from the parking lot.

Weekend Programs
Spend quality family time at Living Classrooms while participating in engaging science and nature activities. Weekend programs offer families the opportunity to explore the Children’s Sensory Garden, play in the oversized sandbox, take an interpretative hike with an educator, encounter live animals, create crafts, meet special guests, and learn together. Join us each month for different themed activities! (See below for monthly themes.) Please note that topics are subject to change.
Living Classrooms is open every weekend for drop-by visits, but does occasionally close for site maintenance or special events. Please check the website listed above for the most up-to-date information.
Hours/Admission Saturdays & Sundays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. $5 non-members; $3 for seniors and military families with ID (Free for members and children less than 2 years old.)
UPCOMING MONTHLY THEMES
February: We're All In This Together Join us as we take a look around the world to see how different cultures interact with nature. Learn new stories, songs, and crafts about our unique planet, Earth.
March: Let's Go Camping! Wear your hiking boots and come ready to get up close and personal with the great outdoors! Join us for some urban camping as we shake off winter, learn the basics of outdoor camping and pitch our tent for spring.
April: Earth Appreciation Come by and give Mother Nature a hug! We're celebrating Earth Day all month long as we learn about recycling and protecting the only planet we've got!
May: Sprouting Seeds Whether you're a young seedling or an ancient oak, there's fun to be had this May at The Children's Museum! Come plant a seed to take home as we learn a bit about the things that grow in our own backyard and the animals that enjoy them. Come check us out and help us explore our "roots!"
June: Animal Planet Your journey around the world to discover new and exciting animals starts here! Each week we will explore a different type of animal and what makes each one unique. Get a chance to meet up close out "animal ambassadors" who live at our museum.
July: Outdoor Adventures This month it's all about the outdoors -- join us for hiking, rock-climbing and playing in the wonderful world of nature!
August: Wonderful Water! Learn about the many ways we use water this month at Living Classrooms as you learn why some things sink and others float in water, watch a cool magic trick and more! |
