The 41st Annual Labor Day Art Show at Glen Echo Park will be held in the historic Spanish Ballroom from September 3 through September 5, 2011. Sponsored by the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture, the exhibition and sale will run from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Admission is free. A reception on Friday, September 2, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. will be open to the public, and many participating artists are expected to attend.

The exhibition will feature the work of more than 250 artists from the mid-Atlantic region. Many of the artists have a connection to Glen Echo Park, either as instructors or students. The show will include works in a wide range of artistic media, such as sculpture, painting and drawing, ceramics, glass, jewelry, photography, furniture, and works on paper. Most artwork on display will also be offered for sale. This non-juried show includes original works from artists of all ages and skill levels.

Additional Labor Day Weekend Activities:

In conjunction with the Labor Day Art Show, the Glen Echo Park Partnership will host an Open House on Saturday, September 3, which will introduce adults and children to the wide range of visual arts, dance, and theater classes being offered at the park this fall. The Open House will take place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature free classes and demonstrations. Visitors will also be able to view resident artists at work in their studios and browse through a student art exhibition in the Popcorn Gallery.

The Partnership will also present the Irish Music & Dance Showcase in the Bumper Car Pavilion throughout the weekend. This event is free to the public and will have performances on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Visit an Irish Music and Dance Showcase for more information and to download a schedule of the performances.

Visitors may also enjoy a ride on the Park’s historic 1921 Dentzel carousel, which will operate September 2 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and September 3 through September 5 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. ($1.25/person).
